Booking Tips

  • Book tickets at least 2-3 weeks in advance for peak season (spring/autumn) as slots sell out quickly.
  • Choose an early morning time slot to experience the cathedral with fewer crowds and better light for photography.
  • Consider a combo ticket that includes the Royal Alcázar, as it's right next door and offers significant savings.
  • Double-check that your ticket is a 'skip-the-line' or 'priority access' ticket to avoid the main general admission queue.

What to Bring

  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • A bottle of water
  • A camera (no flash)
  • A scarf or shawl for dress code compliance
  • Sunscreen and sunglasses for before and after your visit

Best Seasons to Visit

The best times to visit Seville and its cathedral are during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to October). The weather is pleasantly warm, and the city is vibrant with festivals like Semana Santa and Feria de Abril in the spring. Summer (June to August) can be extremely hot, while winter (November to February) is mild but can have rainy days.

What to Wear

A strict dress code is enforced. Both men and women must cover their shoulders and knees.|Avoid wearing shorts, mini-skirts, tank tops, or spaghetti straps.|Lightweight, breathable fabrics like cotton or linen are ideal for Seville's warm climate.|It is advisable to bring a light scarf or cardigan that you can easily put on before entering the cathedral.|Comfortable walking shoes are essential as you will be on your feet for a long time and the Giralda climb involves ramps.

Planning

Historical Context

Construction of the cathedral began in 1401 on the site of the city's former grand Almohad mosque, which was demolished after the Reconquista. The project took over a century to complete, resulting in the colossal Gothic structure seen today. The Giralda Tower, the former minaret, and the Patio de los Naranjos were preserved from the original mosque, creating a unique blend of Moorish and Christian architecture.

Photography Tips

  • A wide-angle lens is essential to capture the immense scale of the cathedral's interior.
  • Flash photography is strictly prohibited, so increase your ISO or use a fast lens to cope with the low light.
  • Look for the dramatic shafts of light coming through the stained-glass windows in the late afternoon for stunning, atmospheric shots.
  • Use the archways in the Patio de los Naranjos to frame your photos of the Giralda tower.

Insider Tips

  • Wear your most comfortable shoes; the stone floors are unforgiving and there is a lot of walking involved.
  • The Giralda ramp is wide enough for two-way traffic, so keep to the right to allow others to pass.
  • Download an audio guide app on your phone beforehand to save money and get detailed information as you explore.
  • Visit the restroom before you enter, as facilities inside are limited.

Our Partners

  • We are proud to partner with leading global travel platforms like GetYourGuide and Viator to bring you a curated selection of the best tickets and tours. All bookings are securely processed through these trusted, world-renowned systems.

Fun Facts

  • The cathedral's official motto, 'a church so beautiful and so great that those who see it finished will think we are mad,' was declared by the chapter in 1401.
  • The Giralda Tower has ramps instead of stairs because the muezzin used to ride a donkey to the top to call for prayer when it was a minaret.
  • The tomb of Christopher Columbus is carried by four figures representing the four ancient kingdoms of Spain: Castile, Aragon, Navara, and Leon.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation policies vary depending on the specific tour or ticket option you select. Many of our partner providers, like GetYourGuide, offer a free cancellation option up to 24 hours before the activity date. Absolutely Breathtaking - Skip The Line is a MUST!

Don't even think about visiting without a skip-the-line ticket. We walked past a queue that must have been two hours long and went straight in. The cathedral itself is beyond words. The scale, the art, the tomb of Columbus... it's all just incredible. The climb up the Giralda was easier than expected because it's ramps, not stairs, and the view is your reward. Booking was simple and the e-ticket on my phone worked perfectly.

Magnificent but very busy

A true masterpiece of Gothic architecture. The sheer size is hard to comprehend until you are inside. We booked a guided tour which was essential for understanding the history of the place. Our guide was fantastic. My only criticism is the sheer volume of people; it can be hard to appreciate the quiet chapels with so many tour groups. Still, an unmissable part of any trip to Seville.

An Architectural Wonder

As someone who appreciates architecture, this was a dream. The details in the stonework, the stained glass, and the incredible altarpiece are stunning. The Giralda Tower is a unique experience, climbing the ramps that were once used for horseback. The panoramic view of Seville is the best in the city. I recommend going in the morning to get the best light for photos.

Unforgettable Experience

We booked our tickets online a month in advance, and I'm so glad we did. Everything was smooth. The cathedral's interior is dark and majestic, making you feel very small. Seeing Columbus's tomb was a highlight. The Patio de los Naranjos is a beautiful, peaceful place to sit and reflect after the sensory overload of the main building. Highly recommended!

Impressive, but be prepared for the climb

The cathedral is undeniably impressive, a real must-see. The altarpiece is worth the price of admission alone. The Giralda climb is a workout! It's 35 ramps to the top, so wear comfortable shoes. The view is spectacular, but it gets very crowded in the bell chamber at the top. Booking our tickets through this site was easy and saved us a lot of hassle on the day.

Stunning Cathedral and Seamless Booking

The booking process was straightforward and the mobile ticket was scanned without any problems. The cathedral is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. The mix of Moorish history in the Giralda and the Gothic splendour of the main building is fascinating. I would advise anyone to book a ticket that includes the audio guide to get the most out of the visit.

More than a church, it's a museum of wonders!

Wow! Just wow. Every corner has something to see. The treasury with the crowns and jewels, the giant paintings, the tomb... it's incredible. Climbing the Giralda was so fun, and the views are just perfect for pictures. It was a cold day, but inside the cathedral it was fine. Getting our tickets in advance made us feel like VIPs walking past the huge line.

A highlight of our trip to Spain

We visited in the off-season and it was still busy, so I can't imagine what the queues are like in summer. Thank goodness for pre-booked skip-the-line tickets. The cathedral is breathtaking in its size and beauty. It's hard to pick a favourite part, but the view from the Giralda as the sun was setting was something I'll never forget. A 10/10 experience.
